New Triumph America CEO Greg Heichelbech introduced Triumph's key new 2011 models at the International Motorcycle Show at Long Beach Convention Center in California.
Leading the way at the introduction were the new street-oriented adventure Tiger 800 and its dirt-ready brother, the Tiger 800 XC.
The Tigers 800 XC features long-travel suspension, a DOHC three-cylinder powerplant, and 21-inch front spoke wheel, the 800 XC delivers true off-road capability. The standard Tiger 800 features a motor with a smooth, broad powerband, as well as an adjustable seat height that can be as low as 31.9 inches.
Greg Heichelbech says: "The Progressive International Motorcycle Shows are a great way to share our new products with customers across the country, and Triumph is looking forward to introducing some exciting new models including the Tiger 800 and Tiger 800XC adventure bikes, three new cruiser motorcycles, and the all-new Speed Triple and premium Daytona 675R sport bikes in Long Beach."
"The motorcycle shows will allow Triumph fans a chance to really check out the new models up close and personal."
The 2011 Triumph Speed Triple 1050 is seriously updated this year, and features an all-new chassis, more useable horsepower, and an aggressive restyling of its signature twin headlights.
The 2011 Triumph Daytona 675R is a race-spec version of the standard Daytona 675, and the 675R features Ohlins suspension based Triumph BE1 World Supersport factory racing bikes, Brembo mono bloc brakes, factory quickshifter, and carbon fiber bodywork. Triumph is promoting the Daytona 675R as "the ultimate track day and road bike."
Cruiser fans were not disappointed. The 2011 Thunderbird Storm is outfitted with the factory 1700 cc big bore kit (only an accessory previously), added dual headlamps recalling the 2010-and-earlier Speed Trip, aggressive drag-style handlebars, and blacked out the chrome for a hard-edged look.
Not pictures, but also shown were the 2011 America, a 865cc parallel twin-powered cruiser that gets a lower seat height and revised ergonomics this year.
Also, the new Speedmaster is described by Triumph as a "hot rod-style cruiser" that has improved ergonomics with forward controls, a lower seat height, and wider handle bars for a ride that is "muscular and empowering."

The Daytona 675R is the first Triumph ever to be equipped with Ohlins suspension as standard – the forks and shock are both from the Swedish suspension masters. Top-spec Brembo brakes are fitted – four-piston radial-mount monobloc calipers and a radial master cylinder are standard.

Carbon mudguards are fitted, and the Daytona 675R is distinguished from the standard Daytona with a new white/black paint scheme, new Triumph logos and a new version of the Daytona stickers too. The red subframe is also unique to the Daytona 675R.

Insiders claim pre-production bikes have been shown with a quick-shifter fitted. Dealers are expecting it cost somewhere between £9000-9500 when Triumph finalises 2011 pricing. Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover – Speyer, Germany

The mountains of Austria behind us, we entered a long stretch known as the Autobahn. Porsches and Beemers were flying past (no speed limit in most places) but we were capped at 100kph due to the torpedo on top of the car carrying all our worldly possessions. We pretty much raided Lutz’s entire CD collection on the eight hour drive up to Speyer. Oddly enough, the kitschy Kid Rock song “All Summer Long” is a big hit in Europe right now and we mused on its sampling of "Werewolves in London" and "Sweet Home Alabama". We admittedly even felt a bit homesick as we sang along, boppin’ down the ‘bahn. Lutz introduced us to a great singer named Frank Carrillo and I think we listed to “Roll the Bones” about ten times in a row.

I have to admit that we were pretty tired at this point and hadn’t really heard much about Speyer; hadn’t heard ANYTHING actually. It’s a small to mid-sized town an hour outside of Frankfurt and we kind of viewed it as just a one-night stop on our way to Barcelona... If you hear crunching sounds from now on don’t worry, it’s just the sound of us eating a heaping plate of humble pie...

We found our way to the Flaming Star and had our minds blown. There were already 20 bikes parked in front, mostly café racers and a couple old Harleys. Our jaws dropped and the owner ushered us into a scene we still can’t believe. The bar was sort of a gated clubhouse and inside they were having an old-fashioned American-style Bar-Bee-Q. More and more bikes kept showing up and it was absolutely fantastic. Kutty and his family were there and we had a great time catching up and hearing about the various adventures that had taken place over the past ten days (only ten days?!) Legendary pinstriper Herb Martinez was on hand and believe it or not our buddy Jacqui even showed up!

When it finally came time to show the film, everyone packed into the bar and they even stood out the door. As it played no one spoke a word; we were truly speechless. So here’s to Speyer; huge thanks to all the rulers who came out for the event. It was truly our pleasure to have met you. Big thanks to Dynamite and Custombike Magazines, the Flaming Star, and Dickies for making such a fantastic night.

On a side note I wanted to relate another story from the evening. We had the pleasure of meeting a couple of American guys who had been serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of them mentioned that Choppertown had gotten him and his boys through a lot of shit and they used to turn it up full volume to help them unwind after many a tough day in the field. He said it was an honor to meet us and we had only one thing to say; it’s an honor to meet him. Regardless of where you fall on the political side of the fence, those men and women go through a lot and we wish them all a safe return. Hope to see you guys on the road again soon.

Triumph New Models

Triumph Motorcycles announced six limited edition 2010 models at its recent U.S. Dealer Conference. Included are two versions of its Thunderbird cruiser, including the Thunderbird SE and Thunderbird 1700 – the former featuring touring amenities and the latter coming with the optional big-bore kit standard (pumping displacement up to 1700cc).

Two special editions each for Triumph's Modern Classics and Urban Sport lines are also planned. The Bonneville Sixty is a commemorative edition of the 1960 Bonneville, priced at $8999, of which only 100 will be shipped to North America. The Bonneville T100 Black, as the name suggests, is a blacked out version of the T100, which sports a more retro style than the standard Bonnie, most notably via its wire-spoked wheels.

The Urban Sport line gets a Speed Triple SE, sporting Tornado Red paint and white center stripe, as well as seat cowl and flyscreen ($11,299). The new SE’s are rounded out by the Daytona 675 SE, with white bodywork and blue chassis, along with carbon fiber trim and new graphics overlay ($10,299).

While the addition of more special edition “SE” models continues a trend by the British marque, the boys at Hinckley have plans beyond modest SE tweaks (and higher MSRPs) to existing models. The press release, which also announces the looming sale of Triumph’s 100,000th motorcycle in the 15 years since returning to North America, gives hard numbers for a planned lineup expansion saying:

“Triumph currently offers 16 different models in three motorcycle families: Cruiser, Urban Sport and Modern Classic. That will grow to 23 models across seven motorcycle families by the end of 2012 and include categories where Triumph does not currently compete.”

What could those new categories include? A mid-displacement complement to the Tiger has long been rumored, even coming with a name – the Tiger Cub. The British marque is also notoriously bereft of a literbike to match its popular Daytona 675 supersport.
