MotoGP News
As reported by over a dozen Europen sites, bombshell Paris Hilton is scheduled to present her 2011 MotoGP Team - SuperMartxe VIP by Paris Hilton - that will compete in the 2011 FIM Motorcycling Championship 2011 in the 125cc class.
The announcement is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2010 at the ME Hotel in Madrid Spain, which will be the first press conference for the MotoGP Team. The chic hotel has been visited by other Hollywood stars including George Clooney and made the Conde' Nast Traveler Hotlist in 2007.
For the event Paris Hilton will be accompanied by Xavi Montero and Ricard Garriga. Also attending will be Ricard Jove, the technical director for the 125cc GP team. The teams two motorcycle racers are stated to be Sergio Gadea and the young Maverick Vinales, the 2010 Spanish and European 125cc GP Champions.
The Supermartxe VIP Bikes Team by Paris Hilton has the ambition of becoming the World Champions in the MotoGP 125cc displacement class before the new Moto3 single-cylinder four-stroke 250cc rules take effect in 2012.
The 125cc racing team is joined the technical mastery of Christian Lundberg and Rossano Brazzi, who combined with the talented motorcycle riders should make for a highly competitive team.
The entire motorcycle racing world and MotoGP might find an even larger spotlight due to the main stream notoriety.
If Paris actual shows for a motorcycle race or two (I can't image her dog trackside) and brings all the paparazzi, things could get interesting for other main stream advertisers.

MotoGP Close Finish

After giving a run-down of the ten closest race finishes since the start of the four-stroke MotoGP era, in 2002, here is a breakdown of close finishes by year, rider, circuit, engine size and compared with other championships.
It’s a far from perfect system in terms of 'judging' a race, since it doesn’t take into account the amount of overtaking - another crucial factor in terms of entertainment - or weather conditions, shortened races or where a late-race incident took place between the leaders (such as Rossi and Gibernau at Jerez 2005).
Perhaps MotoGP will do likewise?
The size of the race victory, combined with the amount of overtaking, are the two factors most would use to define entertainment in a motor race.
Note that some circuits are yet to produce a single close finish, under our 1-sec definition.

1. 2006 Portuguese Grand Prix - Estoril (990cc):
Toni Elias wins by 0.002sec over Valentino Rossi.
Elias began the last lap in third place, then overtook both Rossi and Kenny Roberts Jr into turn one! I can't believe I’ve won my first MotoGP race!”
Rossi admitted Elias ‘rode like a devil’ that day.
Elias' victory for Honda Gresini remains the last time that a satellite rider has won a MotoGP race and it wasn’t until 2009 that another race was won by a last lap pass.
Roberts Jr took the lead on the penultimate lap, having thought the race was over one lap early.
Valentino Rossi wins by 0.042sec over Sete Gibernau.
Having shaken off the satellite Honda of Max Biaggi and factory Ducatis of Troy Bayliss and Loris Capirossi, Rossi and Gibernau slugged it out for victory over the closing stages of the Czech race.
The victory marked the end of a four-race losing streak for Rossi and saw one of his most memorable celebrations.
MotoGP rookie Bayliss joined Rossi and Gibernau on the podium to give Ducati some consolation after Capirossi retired with a technical problem.
3. 2003 German Grand Prix - Sachsenring (990cc):
Sete Gibernau wins by 0.060sec over Valentino Rossi.
Sete Gibernau claimed perhaps his most impressive MotoGP victory when he out-foxed Valentino Rossi at the final turn of the 2003 German Grand Prix.
Rossi led the majority of the race, but was reeled in by Gibernau, who had spent the early stages battling with Loris Capirossi and Marco Melandri. Rossi then let Gibernau take the lead on lap 21 of 30, in order to size up his opponent.
Race over? Not this time…
Gibernau, realising Rossi had gone tight, stayed wide on the way in, then cut back under the Italian on the exit. The pair raced side-by-side to the flag, but with momentum on his side the Spaniard beat a shell-shocked Rossi by just 0.06secs.
"The last corner was incredible," beamed Gibernau. While Gibernau couldn't contain his delight, Rossi was left shaking his head in disbelief. Gibernau had now won four races in 2003, compared with three for factory Honda star Rossi. It was probably the most angry Rossi has looked on a MotoGP podium.
Rossi’s response to the defeat, and criticism, came next time out at Brno (see above).
4. 2007 Catalan Grand Prix – Catalunya (800cc):
Casey Stoner wins by 0.069sec over Valentino Rossi.
Casey Stoner’s first three MotoGP race wins were dominant affairs, but the Australian underlined his title credentials by emerging victorious from his first head-to-head showdown with reigning champion Valentino Rossi at round seven in Catalunya.
Whilst Pedrosa was close, he wasn’t able to actively participate in the thrilling victory fight, which saw Rossi and Stoner exchange the lead six times from laps 17 to 24.
Rossi was magnanimous in defeat.
5. 2009 Catalan Grand Prix - Circuit de Catalunya (800cc):
Valentino Rossi wins by 0.095sec over Jorge Lorenzo.
Valentino Rossi inflicted a huge psychological blow on team-mate and title rival Jorge Lorenzo with a daring last turn victory pass at Catalunya in 2009.
Rossi and Lorenzo had won two of the previous five rounds, but Rossi was trailing both Lorenzo and Casey Stoner in the world championship. The pair had also beaten Rossi at the previous Italian GP, marking Valentino’s first home defeat in seven years.
MotoGP had not seen a last lap victory pass since the 2006 Portuguese Grand Prix at Estoril, when Elias had overtaken Rossi.
Marco Melandri wins by 0.097sec over Nicky Hayden.
Melandri and Hayden were left to dispute victory after the Italian’s Gresini Honda team-mate, and pole sitter, Sete Gibernau suffered an engine failure early in the race.
Valentino Rossi wins by 0.097sec over Sete Gibernau.
At times the 2004 MotoGP season, Valentino Rossi’s first with Yamaha, looked like it was straight from a Hollywood script - no more so than when Rossi clinched the world title with a dramatic victory at Phillip Island.
The Australian Grand Prix was the penultimate round of the year and Rossi won Yamaha's first premier-class championship since 1992 with a heart-stopping last lap victory over title rival Sete Gibernau.
Rossi held on to win by just 0.097secs at the line.
8. 2009 German Grand Prix - Sachsenring (800cc):
Valentino Rossi wins by 0.099sec over Jorge Lorenzo.
After stunting Jorge Lorenzo’s momentum with a last turn victory pass at Catalunya (see above), Valentino Rossi claimed another close victory over the Spaniard three rounds later in Germany.
However this time Rossi was on the defensive in the closing stages, successfully containing a charging Lorenzo.
Rossi returned to the front just after mid-race distance, but now faced pressure from Lorenzo, who took the lead with five laps to go. Rossi waited until the penultimate lap to respond, diving under his fellow Fiat Yamaha rider into turn one.
Valentino Rossi wins by 0.145sec over Marco Melandri.
It was an immense victory for Valentino Rossi, who began the race just eleventh on the grid and was the lone Yamaha rider battling a trio of Hondas.
Rossi moved into fourth behind the RCVs of Nicky Hayden, Marco Melandri and Dani Pedrosa on lap 9 of 30, then cut swiftly through the pack to take the lead on lap 13.
Rossi tried break away, pushing hard for the next ten laps - but the Honda trio stuck with him, despite being locked in their own battles, and the closing stages began with Rossi, Melandri, Pedrosa and Hayden nose-to-tail once again.
Melandri finally toppled fellow Italian Rossi from the lead with three laps to go, but Rossi soon retaliated, then held off simultaneous attacks during a thrilling final lap.
Rossi won by 0.145secs from Melandri, with Hayden 0.266secs from victory and fourth placed Pedrosa 0.307secs behind. 10. 2004 Catalan Grand Prix - Circuit de Catalunya (990cc):
Valentino Rossi wins by 0.159sec over Sete Gibernau.
Sete Gibernau stepped up to lead the Honda challenge against the factory’s former star Valentino Rossi in 2004, but soul-destroying close defeats such as Catalunya helped send the title in Rossi and Yamaha’s direction.

State of Indiana presents Hayden with award

Nicky Hayden earned the Executive Director's Award presented by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) for his dedication and service to the Indiana Motorcycle Safety and Awareness campaign.

State of Indiana presents Hayden with award
Indianapolis Motor Speedway Senior Vice President Mel Harder accepted the award on Hayden's behalf from ICJI Executive Director T. Neil Moore at the 16th annual Operation Pull Over Awards Banquet on Nov. 19 in Carmel, Ind. The ICJI and Governor's Council on Impaired & Dangerous Driving played host to the banquet.
"I'm honored to receive this award," Hayden said. "It's been great to work with everyone from the ICJI on this project. I know how great riding motorcycles can be when done the right way, and I'm happy to help increase awareness of safety for all riders in Indiana and everywhere."
Ducati Team star Hayden lent his time and talent to endorse safe, sober riding by all motorcyclists across Indiana. He was featured in many radio and television spots warning against drinking and riding and speeding, and promoting motorist awareness and the use of a helmet and other safety gear. Hayden also was featured in the outdoor and print advertising portion of the popular campaign.
Hayden's sincerity and enthusiasm helped the radio and TV spots from the campaign earn worldwide recognition by winning a Bronze Medal Award and Honorable Mention in several categories this fall at the 2010 International Safety Media Awards.
Earlier this week, Hayden underwent surgery in California at the Fremont Surgery Center, where Dr Art Ting performed an operation to solve an arm-pump problem.

Nicky Hayden Commented On Valentino Rossi Test Result

Nicky Hayden told that Valentino Rossi practice time at Valencia Test should not be taken as reference. There is so much different between Yamaha and Ducati.

"It's always difficult to make such tests. In the case of Valentino, then, change is never easy, especially between two different bikes like Yamaha and Ducati. The fact Ducati moves much more than the Yamaha, is truly a special motion and the curve of addiction is very steep at first. But the faster you go the easier it is." Nicky Hayden explained.

"Smith knows what he does and also the people who are with him. If there was the race the next day I'm not saying that he would fight for the podium, but it would have been there with others. For me, when I arrived in 2009 was more difficult because I had to get used to the team, where they were all Italians, but now the environment is great and I was encouraged by the atmosphere that exists in the box. The mechanics of Valentino come to ask for things that do not know my parents. Everything works".

Next MotoGP test will be held at Sepang on February 2011. Valentino Rossi hopefully recover after surgery to make better result with Ducati

MotoGP Gardner "not overly surprised"

Valentino Rossi's chief engineer Jeremy Burgess says the Italian's slow times in his maiden test for Ducati are no cause for panic.
"There's no reason to panic, despite Valentino's unusual test results," Burgess told Motosprint.
"After years of Japanese bikes, and seven seasons at Yamaha, for Valentino to get on the Ducati was a sort of culture shock.
Burgess also believes that Rossi was suffering particularly badly with his shoulder injury - which has since undergone surgery - at the test.
This has influenced his test."
FORMER 500cc World Champion Wayne Gardner has said he's "not overly surprised" new Ducati signing Valentino Rossi ended the second day's testing at Valencia in 15th place on the timesheets.

Speaking after last week's two-day test, which saw the nine-time World Champion take his first ride aboard the 2011 Desmosedici, Gardner believes Rossi will have been keeping his powder dry until the start of pre-season testing next year.

Like many of us, Gardner was impressed, if not surprised, by fellow Australian Casey Stoner's blistering performance at the Valencia test session.
Filippo Preziosi, the General Director at Ducati Corse, and his team at the Bologna factory will now take Rossi and teammate Nicky Hayden's impressions from the last official MotoGP test of 2010, and develop the GP11 into a machine that will suit both Ducati riders needs.
During the MotoGP tests, Rossi finished 10th on Day 1, and 15th on Day 2; Hayden finished ninth on Day 1, and sixth on Day 2.
Filippo Preziosi says: "As the journalists put the most focus on the lap times it's quite clear that maybe Valentino has to adapt to Ducati, but mainly Ducati has to modify the bike to suit Valentino's needs."
To be optimistic I think we know the bike will work even without Casey, so we have to find the way to understand how to modify the bike in order to give Valentino Rossi the confidence to push."
During the 2010 MotoGP season, Hayden and then-teammate Casey Stoner used the "Big Bang" Ducati engine.
Rossi also discussed grip on the Ducati prototype, which is something Stoner struggled with during the 2010 MotoGP Championship.
Overall all, Preziosi said the MotoGP Ducati tests in Valencia meet his expectations.
"So there is a way to be fast, and sometimes people who have no experience of a top level MotoGP bike are in better condition to understand the bike."

MotoGP :Marco Melandri testing at Valencia

Just days after bidding a less than fond farewell to MotoGP, Melandri and new team-mate Eugene Laverty took to the Spanish circuit for a one-day test.

Enabling him to get acclimatised on both the bike that was campaigned by Cal Crutchlow in 2010 and also the 2011 version, Melandri was on fine form aboard the R1 as he dropped under the 1min 34secs benchmark on soft tyres.

Setting an unofficial best time of 1min 33.9secs on soft rubber and 1min 34.3secs on race rubber, Melandri is already comparing favourably to the outright lap record – held by Ben Spies – of 1min 33.270 and Noriyuki Haga’s race lap record of 1min 34.618secs.

Marco Melandri and Eugene Laverty concluded a successful one-day test at Valencia today with the Italian posting impressive lap times during his first ever ride on a Superbike.

Melandri has spent his career racing prototypes having graduated from 125GP to 250GP and into MotoGP in a career that has already spanned 13 years. But despite having no racing experience on a production bike or Pirelli tyres he demonstrated an impressive pace.

“We did dome good work with the 2011 bike.

On qualifying tyres, Melandri posted a lap only 0.2secs slower than Valentino Rossi's best lap at the previous day’s MotoGP test.

Team-mate Eugene Laverty posted a best time of 1:34.9 and clocked up 76 laps.

Valentino Rossi with Ducati - the Valencia MotoGP test

The test marked the debut of Valentino Rossi with Ducati, Casey Stoner with a factory Honda, Cal Crutchlow with Tech 3 Yamaha etc.
The next official MotoGP test will be at Sepang in February.
Ducati has pledged to improve its MotoGP machine after superstar signing Valentino Rossi was left just 15th fastest at the end of his Desmosedici debut at the Valencia MotoGP test.

Rossi's best time was 1.695sec slower than the rider he has replaced at Ducati, Casey Stoner, who was fastest for Honda.

The Italian even came within 0.032sec of being outpaced by MotoGP rookie Karel Abraham, also riding a Ducati.

With Rossi unable to discuss the test due to the terms of his early release from Yamaha, it was left to Ducati Corse general manager Filippo Preziosi to face the press. Preziosi is leaning towards the more user-friendly 'big bang', which Rossi used throughout day two.

“I kind of feel, I don’t know, I feel kinda royalty or something,” he smiled. “It’s a little different. Just with this little conference here.
“There’s a lot of changes. I mean, even starting with the bike, it’s very similar to what I raced last year, but a lot of little subtle changes. And a lot of changes with the crew.” Spies entire crew won’t be with him until the Malaysia tests in February, but this was a good start. “But for the first day I’m happy with it. We, like I said, didn’t do anything too crazy. Stayed comfortable. Got used to some differences with the bike. I’m happy with it. We were pretty quick most of the day and I’m pretty comfortable too.’

Spies finished with the third fastest time, just behind Stoner. The obvious question was how was it better than his Monster Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1. The obvious answer was “You say everything, right?” he asked.

“You know, like I said there’s a couple updates, from the visible updates with the bigger seat and stuff that just tries to even some things out and keep things more balanced. You know, honestly, I don’t know. It’s not like I can’t say, but I don’t know exactly. Just got some better grip and better feel with the bike and more stability. Nothing mind-blowing, but kind of in every department better and I’m happy. And like I said, I learned with working with the Ohlins tech better and the new engineer and when my data guy comes the more we can work together I think we make the package we’ve got even better. But, you know, it’s good that starting out the package is already better. But making it just further with the development and that’s what we’re going to try to do tomorrow and start out in Malaysia and keep going.”
Spies went faster than he’d gone in Sunday’s race, when he finished fourth. The difference came in “the initial braking, the turn-in, the more side grip. Just the bike just seems to work a little bit better in every way. I guess that’s being on the factory bike I can say that now being on it, it’s not like you jump on it and you’re going to go faster than Jorge (Lorenzo). It’s not like that. But it’s definitely, the overall package is a little bit better in every way.”
On Wednesday, "We messed with the bike a bit," Spies said. "Changed some settings and went in a positive direction. So another good session working with the new crew again, I'm very happy with it. I read some comments from Jorge about the new engine for next year, he seemed to be happy with the way that was going, so I look forward to seeing that in Malaysia. I'm looking forward to now having a couple of months of then getting back to it!"

Long-time Spies crew chief Tom Houseworth revealed that "we collected the data from yesterday, and following a meeting last night made some setting changes for today which we tested with very positive results. Once we had achieved these we went ahead and tested the Bridgestone tires, testing three options, one of which Ben really liked a lot."

MotoGP Australia season ‎

Valentino Rossi gets wheel-to-wheel against his own team-mate - Lorenzo - for the very first time, and to boot, a guy who hadn't even ridden a GP bike when Rossi was already winning on the Honda V5 in MotoGP.

Pedrosa had a bike that flew at most of the tracks, winning six races, while Stoner's Ducati had a front end that stuck like glue, leaving the Aussie to sort out the back end as he always likes it.
At present, "MotoGP" has Lorenzo on all cylinders, Stoner is making them look silly once he bolts into the middle distance, Rossi is finding form at places he knows and likes, while the works Hondas are rocketships but are missing their fastest rider.

Pole, won the race and fastest lap: thank you very much, now where's the night club?

Will Pedrosa return for Estoril in 10 days time? Of course he will on current form.

Stoner had won the pole position for the race on Friday and showed his dominance over the track like never before.

Stoner finished the race with the lead of eight and a half seconds over Lorenzo. It was a good race for the Italian as well, as he was able to show his brilliance over the racing track by overtaking the American rider Nicky Hayden in the final lap of the race.
Stoner is now eyeing to equalize Valentino Rossi’s five straight wins at the Phillip Island.

Pedrosa also had missed the last two races.
Proving that the power of hometown heroics should never be underestimated, Casey Stoner not only put on a great show for his fellow countrymen but once again proved to be dominant at the Australian GP. Lorenzo rode rode well in MotoGP Australia, claiming a lonely second place position almost ten seconds ahead of his teammate Valentino Rossi, who closed out the podium in style. Ben Spies rounded out the top five, marking the eighth time this season the young American has finished fifth or better, which secured him the Rookie of the Year title for 2010.
